    Product Description

    T&G Chopping Boards - at Home in any Home Since T&G was established in 1975, the company’s wide-ranging and ever-evolving product portfolio has been predominantly wood-based. Whether it’s for preparation or serving, is rectangular, round or heart-shaped, and is needed for meat, bread, cheese or pizza, you need look no further. Why Wood? Unlike chopping boards that are produced using synthetic plastic materials, those that are crafted from wood have a natural bacterial resistance, without the need for bleach or harsh cleaning solutions. Although the mechanism that is responsible for this ‘natural defence’ is not entirely clear, it appears that bacteria are absorbed into the wood’s porous surface and neutralised by the anti-microbial chemicals that are used by living trees to protect themselves. Studies have shown that bacteria died away on wooden surfaces, but thrived on both plastic and metal. Put simply: when it comes to hygiene, wood is best. Ethical and Sustainable Forestry T&G were one of the first members of the World Wildlife Federation 95+ Group (WWF 95+) and have held FSC certification since 1999. The company pays particular attention to the products that it manufactures and purchases in order to satisfy the increasingly ‘environmentally-conscious’ consumer.       This board makes the perfect mouse mat. Strange as it may seem to buy a chopping board for your computer desk it actually makes a whole lot more sense than you may realise. Normal mouse mats are usually a thin layer of felt stuck onto to some overly expensive pretentious piece of non-slip rubber that costs upwards of thirty to forty quid, is a haven for dust and dirt and perishes after repeated washes. This little board on the other hand is incredibly easy to keep clean, its durable and nicely finished. A perfect surface for the laser of a high end optical mouse. And if push comes to shove I have something stylish to serve cheese on too! win-win all round, huzzah!

      Note - this one doesn't have a rivet preventing occasional dripping so it will fare better with dry produce. This was clearly visible on the picture so I wouldn't count it against the product. Plus the somewhat lifted edges make it easier to pick up when done.

      I always keep my meat, fish and cheese preparation separate from the vegetable side of things in the kitchen, so it doesn't really matter that the dishwasher is a No! No! for this product. It is so easy to rinse it off under the tap after chopping-up carrots, onions, salad, etc. One thing to be careful of: the wood is fairly hard and fine for normal use, but if you press too firmly with a very sharp knife, you can leave unnecessary grooves in the wood! This brings me to the reason for buying two of these hygienic wood ones - my old nylon chopping boards are so badly cut, how much plastic have my family and I eaten in the past?
